Writer — Strategist — Recovering Idealist
RyanWeyandt
Twenty years in the arena. Now writing about what it cost, what it built, and what it clarified.
Writing.
Long-form essays, letters from the edge of clarity, and a memoir that has been writing itself for years — whether I liked it or not.
A dispatch from the space between where you were and where you’re going. Irregular by design. Honest by necessity.

What a Time to Be Alive
“The storm did not end me. It clarified me.”
A memoir about founding something, losing it, and figuring out what’s left when the institution you built outlasts the version of you that built it.
Full Book PageThe Short Version.
I’ve spent twenty years at the intersection of strategy, advocacy, and institution-building — founding organizations, running campaigns, and doing the kind of work that doesn’t fit neatly on a resume.
This site is where I write outside of all that. No org, no client, no brief. Just the longer view — on movements, on markets, on what happens to people who build things that outlast them.
I live in Minnesota, for now. Married to Michael since 2019. We have a dog named Como who has very strong opinions about everything.
The writing here is personal. It’s also, inevitably, political. I’ve made peace with that.
